To Enter and fill the shoes of a Designer
From failure to success!
From my personal experiences... From my Failures to success! I learned a great deal, and value the moments.
Game Design has been one of those subjects I wanted to do for many years since the mid 2000's when I discovered I could modify games and support development. I eventually entered the Advanced Diploma of Game Design at AIE Adelaide in South Australia during 2016 when i officially started the course. The time flew by so fast, and I only built 7 projects... Of which, two are complete failures...
For me, developing projects felt like it required effort, and having to put effort into anything was a first for me... Because i wanted to put the effort in. The problem i faced was the stress and lack of motivation. But i overwhelmed these issues through perseverance! If i could do it all over again knowing what i know now. It would have made all my projects much more scoped and manageable rather then to keep pushing myself outside of school hours to develop a full product for not only my portfolio, but also my overall satisfaction.
If you just entering Design, i'd highly recommend finding something that motivates you, as well as bringing yourself an electronic phone/tabelt, drive and pencils to make notes of everything been said, You need this skill to survive!
At the end of the design course i found something that motivates me. I have some regrets, but I also do not have regrets. I found something that made me happy and work effortless. It's the reason i strongly believe in myself and my own capability's now more than ever! Before I had doubt in my reliability and confidence but now I realize... I am fully capable of supporting the load I am required to take on!
The Starting point
If you intent to become a designer, the first things i'd recommend knowing what I know now are:
Be happy and motivated
Have hardware to support you in a self taught learning space from home.
Organize your Google Drive so you can store nice and neatly your documentation.
Build your portfolio now!
These tips can save you not only time, but make things easier!
Where am i going now?
I plan to find a way to not only prove myself to myself, but others too. Not many jobs creates high levels of competition. And honestly no one really likes that, but you have to face the fact, without the best and the brightest amongst us, those company's would not stand so tall amongst the city's!
I plan to work for some company with the same values i yield myself, where we can expand and bring in more potential positions for more local employment.
Because of the struggle I intend to be a pillar and help lift everything as high as I can for us developers looking for work!
While i do not yield a satisfactory portfolio, i know i have that potential to build and retain once attained! You must keep pushing forward all of your projects, and keep building the skill's you already posses! If your a Junior looking for work... Just remember the most valuable thing about a Designers capability's is the ability to reach the target market, and provide an immersive experience in which people remember the business for! Thank you for your Audiance, i be seeing you in the past present and future! Michael Gackle - Junior Designer - 3/12/2017
